Glacier Bay Activities

Gustavus Activities

Glacier Bay Boat Tour

A full day tour of Glacier Bay National Park's west arm and its fjords, islands and glaciers. You may see active tidewater glaciers "calving" while enjoying the spectacular scenery and abundant wildlife of the sky, shore, and water. A Park Service naturalist is on board to share their knowledge of Glacier Bay's history, special geological features, and to identify the exciting wildlife you observe. Harbor seals, whales, moose, bear, mountain goats, and over 200 species of birds including bald eagles, puffins and cormorants are examples of the abundant wildlife in the bay.

Whale Watching
Enjoy a 4 or 8 hour Icy Strait cruise, observing and listening to whales as they swim and feed. A huge concentration of krill and other "whale food" makes Icy Strait one of the best areas to view whales at their most active. Seals, sea lions, Sea Otters, porpoise, sea birds, and much more are seen in these waters the whales call home as well. Join your experienced captain for an unforgettable experience that many do more than once!

Humpback Whale in Icy Straits - Glacier baySea Kayaking

Guided trips, suitable for beginners and experienced paddlers alike or self guided trips for the more self assured and experienced paddlers. Either option offers a unique way to explore rich tide pools, have lunch on the beach and observe wildlife more closely and quietly. An upgraded guided day trip offers you a chance to kayak in the marine rich waters of Point Adolphus while viewing humpback whales, Stellar sea lions and much more. All provide exceptional options for wildlife and nature viewing.

Sport Fishing
The waters of Icy Strait and Cross Sound offer great halibut and salmon fishing; also Ling Cod, Black Cod, and Sea Bass. Take an all day boat trip or a half day trip with all equipment included. Experienced guides will find you that fishing hole that doesn't disappoint and impart their knowledge and enthusiasm for fishing in Alaska's fish rich waters.

Outer Banks Tour

Take a full day tour of Icy Straight and Cross Sound looking for a wide variety of wildlife including whales. Stop for lunch at the small fishing community of Elfin Cove and take a stroll on the board walk. Head out to the outer coast and the untamed beauty of the Northern Pacific. This is an extraordinary trip off the beaten path that few people get to experience.

Aerial Tours or Fly-In Fishing/Hiking

Observe this spectacular wilderness from the air for another perspective. See the huge expanse of the Brady Ice Field and cascading glaciers, giant moose, burly brown and black bear, and agile mountain goats grazing on cliffs. If you want to get close and personal a float plane can drop you off at a secluded lake or river. A great opportunity to explore areas that rarely see humans and offer untold wildlife viewing and fishing opportunities!

Hiking & Biking
Bikes come with your Annie Mae Lodge stay and provide the perfect opportunity to spend a day exploring the small community of Gustavus. You can also join a hike led by a Glacier Bay National Park naturalist at Bartlett Cove and learn about Glacier Bay's flora and fauna.

Let us know which activities interest you, and we will customize a package just for you. Your air taxi from Juneau or other surrounding communities can also be included in your package.
